Below is a list of Fellowships that do not explicitly require US citizenship. Some may be open to applicants from any country, others are open to international students from selected countries, and some require applicants to be either US Permanent Residents or be in the process of seeking to remain in the US. See the eligibility requirements of each program. Fellowships staff are happy to assist you in applying to any of these opportunities.

Yenching Academy

Deadline: 12/03/2024 (Tentative)

Funds a full-time Master of Arts in China Studies at Peking University in Beijing in: Literature and Culture; History and Archaeology; Philosophy and Religion; Politics and International Relations; Economics and Management; or Law and Society. Courses available in both English and Chinese

James C. Gaither Junior Fellows Program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (Tentative Deadline)

The James C. Gaither Junior Fellows Program offers up to twelve one-year internships at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Gaither Junior Fellows assist with research and editing for Carnegie senior scholars in areas including nuclear nonproliferation, foreign policy, democracy and governance, technology policy, economics, and regional studies.

Gates Cambridge Scholarship

Funds a full-time PhD or master's degree in nearly any academic field at the University of Cambridge for individuals with a sustained commitment to producing positive change and using the knowledge gained through their graduate degree to work toward the greater good

Ford Foundation Dissertation Fellowship

Deadline: 12/12/2024 (Tentative)

Provides one year of support for full-time completion of a PhD dissertation to increase the diversity of the nation’s college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, to maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and to increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students

Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship

Provides three years of support for full-time PhD study to increase the diversity of the nation’s college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, to maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and to increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students

Huntington Public Service Award

Deadline: 01/12/2025 (Tentative)

$30,000 award for graduating college seniors to implement a public service project anywhere in the world

Emerson National Hunger Fellows

Deadline: 01/12/2025 (Tentative)

The Bill Emerson National Hunger Fellows Program participants gain field experience fighting hunger and poverty through placements in community based organizations across the country, and policy experience through placements in Washington, DC. 

Coro Fellowship

Deadline: 01/13/2025 (Tentative)

The Coro Fellows Program develops emerging leaders by providing hands-on experience for recent college graduates working with urban institutions in one of five US cities (Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, or St. Louis).
