Ever since high school, I have been doing research and really looked forward to continuing to conduct research in college. Penn is such a conducive environment for research and I was able to quickly get involved in research that interested me with the help of CURF. Through the CURF directory, I was able to reach out to a few PIs who were doing research in fields of my interest. Ultimately, I was lucky enough to be offered a position at the Atluri Lab, a cardiovascular surgery lab at HUP. As a lab, we are interested in developing novel therapeutics for both acute and chronic heart failure. Over the past year, I have been working to study and identify the mechanisms that are involved in the manifestation of stress cardiomyopathy with the goal of discovering therapies that will target markers that are found to be upregulated in the disease process. Additionally, I have been assisting with clinical research as well in relation to the use of ECMO in lung failure and cardiac surgery. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have about research! I really look forward to being able to help other undergraduates with their research interests!
