Shria Kavaturu

Hello! My name is Shria Kavaturu, and I’m a third-year undergraduate at Penn studying Biochemistry on the pre-medicine track. My research journey began in high school, where I participated in internships at Case Western Reserve University. There, I worked in wet labs studying molecular markers of cancer and T cell activation in the context of cancer immunotherapy. I also worked under faculty in the Department of Public Health to examine the impact of cancer on the Cleveland community. These experiences gave me a strong foundation for my current work in the Verginadis Lab at Penn. My project involves investigating the mechanisms of intestinal regeneration in the small intestine following focal radiation in mouse models.

Outside the lab, you can find me volunteering at a local West Philly elementary school, running along the Schuylkill, exploring new restaurants, or helping out at the Ronald McDonald House.
