Internship description provided by Play On Philly

Play On Philly (POP) is seeking enthusiastic interns to join our Summer Program! During the month of July, POP provides a tuition-free, full-day music summer camp to K-12 students at Temple’s Boyer College of Music and Dance. All students are loaned an orchestral instrument and participate in a combination of studio and large ensemble classes, as well as choir, music theory, and other arts and physical fitness activities throughout the day. Many of our summer students participate in POP during the school year as part of our out-of-school time programs, where they play with their peers 8 hours a week, while other students join us for the summer and learn how to play an instrument for the first time.

The Play On Philly SHIP Interns will follow one of two program types -- Education or Communication -- with both internships being a hybrid commitment between mid-June to mid-August.

Education Intern

The Education Intern will be an integral part of the summer team, working closely with our students, families, Teaching Artists, and other POP interns to ensure students have a positive, educational experience. The Education Intern will work with other members of the Program Team in the pre-camp planning and preparation phase all the way through execution and post-summer reflections. Successful candidates will have a passion for working directly with students, an interest in music education, and a desire to learn more about arts administration. A background as a musician or experience playing an orchestral instrument is a plus, but not a requirement.

Communications Intern

The Communications Intern will be an integral part of the summer team, working closely with our students, families, and Teaching Artists to create content for POP’s social media, write weekly e-newsletters, and support the Development Manager with various projects. Successful candidates will have a passion for working directly with students, an interest in music education, and the ability to effectively communicate and tell a story. A background as a musician or experience playing an orchestral instrument is a plus, but not a requirement.
