The faculty of the Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research include primary faculty Drs. Linda Aiken, Matthew McHugh, Eileen Lake, J. Margo Brooks Carthon, and Karen Lasater. With expertise in health services research methods, patient outcomes data, and the utilization and management of large datasets, Center faculty has studied the impact of nursing on patient outcomes in over 30 countries, including compelling practice and policy questions pertaining to the contributions of nurses to safe, effective care.
Description:
The Center has produced seminal research demonstrating the impact of adequate nurse staffing on improving patient outcomes is widely used as a basis for managerial and policy decision making. Center faculty research interests include disparities and health equity; the impact of legislation and policy, hospital organization and staffing, and hospital economic, geographic and social context on patient and nurse outcomes; nursing workforce issues; and studies involving adult medical/surgical, pediatric, neonatal, psychiatric, oncology, ICU, elderly, and chronically ill patients.
