Description:
Community colleges are important points of entry for many students. Most community college students wish to transfer to a four-year college to earn a bachelors degree, but few do. One factor that contributes to low transfer rates is misalignment across sectors; the classes needed to transfer vary across four-year colleges and do not align with the courses needed to earn an Associate of Arts (AA). In this study we will examine the extent of misalignment in California colleges. We will use publicly available data to code transfer and degree requirements across a number of departments in six colleges.
