Mentor Areas

My research program is centered in the disciplines of soil science and biogeochemistry. I am interested in the processes that store and stabilize/de-stabilize organic matter in surface soils, and the links between the soil carbon balance, sustainable agriculture, ecosystem services, and the broader global carbon cycle. Beyond this specific research program, I am broadly interested in soil science, biogeochemistry and environmental science, including carbon and nutrient transport and pollution in streams, waste management, urban systems, the anthropocene, etc.

Description:

Projects will vary. Interested students should contact us to discuss possibilities. We use a suite of physical, chemical and biological techniques to characterize and quantify environmental samples such as soils, sediments, etc. Undergraduate research can be conducted as independent projects or to support ongoing graduate student, postdoctoral or faculty research projects.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong interest in environmental, Earth or ecological sciences. Some laboratory research experience invited, but not required. Some experience with R is preferred for data analysis projects.
