Neuroscience, Functional Genomics, Gene Editing, Neurodegeneration, Stem cell biology, Immunology

Description:

The Haney lab is looking for motivated researchers to investigate the mechanisms of brain aging and neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease. Specifically, we study the cellular mechanisms by which microglia and peripheral immune cells damage or support neuronal function in neurodegenerative disease and aging. We do this by performing single cell and spatial transcriptomic sequencing on post-mortem human brain tissue, gene editing and functional assays in human iPSCs derived neurons and microglia, and CRISPR KO screens in mouse models of aging and neurodegeneration. We are looking for researchers to assist in this in a variety of techniques including:  Human and mouse brain staining and imaging, Molecular biology techniques such as PCR, RNA-sequencing, plasmid cloning, human and mouse stem cell culture, or computational analysis of sequencing and imaging data. Funding as a full time position in the summer may be available. Research can  be conducted for course credit during the fall and the spring semesters. To apply, please email Dr. Michael Haney (Michael.Haney@Pennmedicine.upenn.edu) and include your resume/CV and a brief statement of why you would like to participate in research and your post graduation plans.
