Description: The National Institute of Health has created the "Human Connectome Project" to collect data from several grant-awarded researchers to map the structural and functional connections in the human brain. Dr. Sheline's specific project, "Dimensional Connectomics of Anxious Misery" aims to recruit 200 individuals with anxious misery, which represents the spectrum of traditional depressive and anxiety disorders, and 50 healthy control subjects. The main objective of this proposal is to acquire and make public a vast database of brain imaging and behavioral data from patients with anxious misery.
Responsibilities:
Participant/patient liaison: meet participants and escort to testing and MRI scanning sites, relay visit reminders, return calls as needed. As skills grow, students may become more involved with the participant visits, including consenting procedures and administration of study assessments.
Recruitment: Assist with advertisement creation and distribution.
Data Entry: Enter data into RedCap and/or Excel; do data quality assurance checks.
Student responsibilities may change as additional projects begin. Students who demonstrate a high level of skill and maturity, may gain additional responsibilities that will serve the lab and contribute to their academic and research growth.
Students would begin their involvement with the lab in their sophomore or junior year and continue through senior year. Summer involvement is encouraged.
The minimum commitment of this position would be 1 academic year.
Preferred Qualifications
Interested students should have taken "Introduction to Psychology" and have a basic understanding of the presentation of "anxious misery" disorders (e.g., anxiety, depression, PTSD, etc.). Students will need to have a certain level of maturity, in order to appropriately interact with the patient population. Demonstrated organization and time-management skills are required.
Additional desired skills: data entry experience, RedCap/Qualtrics/Survey Monkey creation and maintenance experience, graphic design
