We investigate the links (if any) between these environmental behaviors across three generations and examine the intergenerational transmission of family consumption behaviors that have an environmental impact. We focus on analyzing the quantitative data that has been collected in the United States, Korea and Israel from a national random sample of dyads (parents and their children) Using the quantitative and qualitative data on behaviors such as buying eco-friendly products, avoiding disposable products, using sustainable modes of transportation, and making food choices as well as using energy, and quotidian behaviors at the household level such as recycling and reusing) to answer the following research questions:
1. Is there an intergenerational transmission of these behaviors and underlying motivations across generations
2. What are the contextual influences on intergenerational transmission of these behaviors?
Description:
Our proposed research examines how environmental behaviors are transmitted between and across generations, and if and how this transmission and its cultural framings are influenced by the economic, political, and socio-cultural context.
