- Behavior and cognitive changes in dogs with medical disease
Description:
Physical and behavioral health are closely connected, and physical disease has a relevant bearing on the behavior of dogs. In human patients with Cushing’s disease, behavioral changes and psychiatric disorders are commonly observed, including depression, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and cognitive abnormalities. In dogs, as in humans, it has been suggested that behavioral changes are associated with endocrine disorders such as Cushing’s disease, however there are no studies demonstrating this link. The purpose of this preliminary study is to evaluate the behavior and cognitive ability of dogs with Cushing’s as observed by their owners, and compare this to normal healthy dogs.
This preliminary phase of the study will be conducted remotely and will include the administration a set of standardized and validated behavior and cognition surveys and tests.
