Dr. Chao’s research bridges clinical, behavioral, and neuroscience approaches to identify key factors underlying binge eating, obesity and related comorbidities. Her program of research aims to identify and characterize causes, consequences, and correlates of binge eating and obesity, and to translate this knowledge to optimize clinical interventions for these disorders. A central focus of this work is investigating the roles of cravings, addictive-like behavior, stress, impulsivity, and reward.
