Dr. Flores studies the intersection of language and race in education. This includes tracing the racist roots of contemporary language educational research, policy, and practice, documenting the ways that they continue to harm racialized bilingual students, and conceptualizing anti-racist alternatives. Dr. Flores works closely with educators working in bilingual programs in Philadelphia. He oversaw the Philadelphia Bilingual Education Project that studied the history of bilingual education in the city while supporting the district in its expansion of dual language education through the provision of teacher professional development and program support.
