Mentor Areas

I joined the Division of Pulmonary Medicine at The Children's Hospital Of Philadelphia in 2011 after completing my fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital where I developed a special interest in pediatric bronchology and aerodigestive disorders.  While there I also obtained a Master’s Degree in Clinical and Translational Research from the University of Cincinnati and investigated risk factors for the development of bronchiectasis in children with recurrent pulmonary aspiration.  I am the pulmonary director of CHOP’s multidisciplinary Center for Pediatric Airway Disorders, which was awarded an internal Frontier Grant providing funding to facilitate clinical research and therapeutic innovation in the care of children with congenital and acquired disorders of the airways.  In partnership with one of my colleagues in the division of pulmonary medicine, I helped develop one of the first pediatric interventional bronchoscopy programs in the country and we are co-editing the first pediatric interventional bronchoscopy textbook, which is scheduled for publication in 2019.   Additional ongoing research includes elucidating mechanisms involved in the development of airway stenosis, evaluating the effect of cholinergic agonists on airway smooth muscle tone in children with tracheomalacia, and exploring the role of ultrasound and CT guided transbronchial biopsy techniques for children with pulmonary infections and mediastinal tumors.
