Mentor Areas
I am an Assistant Professor of Urologic Oncology in the Department of Surgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. I received my Master’s degree in Clinical Informatics from Vanderbilt University, focusing on the utilization of mHealth apps and websites to improve health education and patient engagement. I also completed his fellowship in Urologic Oncology at Vanderbilt, specializing in the management of urologic malignancies, such as prostate, bladder, kidney, testis, and penile cancer.
My research interest lies at the intersection of quality improvement and informatics, using innovative tools to decrease the gap between clinical practice and evidence based guidelines. My previous work focused on identifying gaps in the quality of cancer care for minorities, evaluating how alternative payment models such as Accountable Care Organizations can influence or exacerbate existing racial disparities, and understanding how health IT tools such as patient portals and smartphone apps can promote patient engagement and empowerment. I am currently working on leveraging population health data to reduce racial disparities in the quality of cancer care through the use of consumer health tools and clinical decision support.
