Mentor Areas

My research focuses on the social, cultural, and biological determinants of health.  Recently I have been working on trends in and the determinants of anxiety, as well as the role of pharmaceuticals in population health.  In the past, I have used twins to study gene-environment relationships, and explored the role of incarceration in health.  Students who have worked with me often write theses on health disparities.

Description:

I study the social, cultural, and biological determinants of health, with a particular focus on mental health.  In the past I have supervised senior thesis projects for Penn undergraduates.  I occasionally have opportunities for other types of collaboration.  If you are interested in topics that align with my own research interests, please contact me.  I'm happy to help you develop your own ideas and/or outline my current research interests.  I write articles and books, and students have assisted with both.

Preferred Qualifications

I focus mostly on quantitative research, using survey and/or demographic data.  I work with STATA, though I have worked with students who are proficient in other software.
