Hi! I'm Suya Que, and I am a junior on the pre-med track studying bioengineering in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. I was lucky to have amazing research opportunities in high school, and I knew I wanted to continue doing research when I came to Penn! My research journey at Penn began when my CURF RPA recommended the PURM program for my freshman-year summer. Through PURM, I joined the Mathijssen Lab, and I continue to do research there now!

My research is focused on microorganisms and their biological behavior in different mediums in confined environments. One of the main microorganisms I study is E. Coli, and their rheotactic behavior under flow in microfluidic systems. Conducting research in this lab has let me pursue my interests in the different aspects of bioengineering, and explore research outside of my major!

I understand how daunting it is to explore the vast opportunities at Penn, or to narrow down your research interests. I look forward to helping anyone that's looking to get involved with research at Penn, or anyone seeking advice on how to maximize their experiences. Please reach out if you have questions!
