I came to Penn with a passion for mathematics and statistics, but it was through my coursework and research experiences that I discovered the exciting applications of these fields in biology and genomics. My journey began with courses in machine learning and statistical genomics, which opened my eyes to the power of quantitative methods in understanding complex biological systems. My research interests now lie at the intersection of computational biology, machine learning, and genomics. I'm particularly fascinated by the application of advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to analyze single-cell and spatial genomics data.

As someone who has navigated the research landscape at Penn, I'm eager to help aspiring undergraduate researchers find their own path. I can offer guidance on:

  • Identifying research opportunities that align with your interests, whether in statistics, biology, or interdisciplinary fields.
  • Developing essential skills in programming languages like R and Python, which are crucial for data analysis in many fields.
  • Navigating the process of joining a research lab and building relationships with faculty mentors.
  • Applying for research programs and funding opportunities, such as the NSF-funded REU program I participated in at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.

My experience across multiple labs and research projects has taught me the value of interdisciplinary collaboration and the excitement of applying quantitative skills to solve real-world biological problems. I'm here to help you discover your own unexpected academic passions and to support you in taking your first steps into the world of research at Penn.
