Yerahm Hong
Dear Aspiring Researcher: Congratulations!
You have taken the first step toward an amazing research experience (or perhaps, career). I was in your shoes not too long ago; as a student who aspired to be at the frontiers of knowledge, I knew I wanted to immerse myself in the rich biomedical research scene at Penn. Though I “shadowed” a physics lab in high school, I didn’t get my first intensive research experience until the summer of my freshman year through PURM where, after taking Intro to Brain and Behavior, I was inspired to apply what I had learned in the classroom to real projects in a neuroscience lab. From mouse brain surgeries to two-photon imaging, I’m very interested in the work I do in the Goldberg Lab studying the mechanisms of childhood epilepsy disorders at the Children’s Hospital. If you have questions about how to look for a lab, what to do to make your research experience the best it can be, how to have a work-life/student-life balance, etc. feel free to shoot me an email!
