When I was first exposed to genetic engineering research in high school, I was fascinated and wanted to continue learning more about molecular genetics and gene therapies. Thus, I came into college knowing I wanted to be invovled in research in a related field. I spent a good amount of time researching labs and cold-emailing PIs to ensure I'd find one that's a good fit. I eventually landed on the Payne/Ellebrecht Lab, where I do work on examining the mechanisms behind CAR T-cell therapies to help enhance cancer treatments. I love how research allows me to see how things I learn in class actually apply to real-life medical issues.
I know that research can be intimidating, especially at such a high-level institution and if you've never done it before, but I would love to help guide you through the process! Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions regarding getting started in research, applying for grants/fellowships, balancing extracurriculars, or just life in general :)
