Cervical Cancer Research in Botswana

Navjeet Kaur ('27) is a Nursing student who traveled to Botswana to research the effects and prevention of cervical cancer with Dr. Surbhi Grover (Department of Radiation Oncology). This research was done through the Center for Global Oncology and was supported by the Penn Undergraduate Research Mentoring Program.

Exploring My Autoimmune Research Interests

Ben Nachod ('26), a Bioengineering major, conducted research with Dr. Michael Mitchell (Department of Bioengineering) on the use of lipid nanoparticles to treat autoimmune diseases. This research was supported by the Vagelos Undergraduate Research Grant.

On the Ground in Poland: Lessons from My Summer Research

Viktoriya Jones ('25), an International Studies and Marketing double major, traveled to Poland to conduct research on the Ukrainian refugee crisis with mentorship from Dr. Rudra Sil (Department of Political Science). This research was supported by the Association of Alumnae Rosemary D. Mazzatenta Scholars Award.

Penn alum Hoang C. Le awarded a 2025 Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans

The 2023 graduate, who was the student Commencement speaker for the College of Arts and Sciences, is a Ph.D. student in molecular and computational biology at Columbia University.

Building Community with Technology

Deepika Kannan ('26), an Urban Studies and Computer Science double major, was an intern at the One Art Community Center. The mission of One Art is to cultivate a space that encourages holistic healing in Philadelphia through art, education, cultural, and community engagement. This internship was supported by the Summer Humanities Internship Program.

A Summer at Penn Dental

Daphne Hicyilmaz ('27), a Biological Anthropology major, conducted research with Dr. Katherine France (Department of Oral Medicine) on patients' perspectives on receiving vaccinations from dentists. This research was supported by the Penn Undergraduate Research Mentoring Program.

A Summer of Science in the Cullen Lab

Asim Handy ('27), a Bioengineering major, conducted tissue engineering research to improve outcomes for patients following neuromuscular injury. Asim was mentored by Dr. D. Kacy Cullen (Department of Neurosurgery) and this research was supported by the Penn Undergraduate Research Mentoring Program.

Five Penn third-year students are 2025 Goldwater Scholars

Goldwater Scholarships are awarded to students planning research careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering.

Taking the Unbeaten Path

Nora Youn ('25), a Visual Studies major, researched how the length of time viewing museum installations influences the aesthetic impacts of the work. Nora was mentored by Dr. Anjan Chatterjee (Department of Neurology), and this research was supported by the College Alumni Society Undergraduate Research Grant.

Sights of Memory in My Grandmother’s Village

Madeline "Mima" Kohn ('26), an Urban Studies major, travelled to Romania to research her own family history, specifically the experiences of her grandmother during World War II. Madeline was mentored by Dr. Taije Silverman (Department of English) and this research was supported by the Paul and Kathleen Barthmaier Award.

Penn fourth-year Jaskeerat Gujral named 2025-2026 ThinkSwiss Research Scholar

The program aims to promote research opportunities in Switzerland for American and Canadian students and to foster exchange between Swiss, U.S., and Canadian universities and research institutions.
