Benjamin Franklin Scholars
Jennifer Prah Ruger

Penn Today's Brandon Baker interviewed Professor Jennifer Prah Ruger about her 2018 book, "Global Health Justice and Governance." Professor Prah Ruger will teach a BFS Seminar of the same next semester. Reading their conversation, Dr. Prah Ruger's passion for health equity oozes from the page; yet this passion never once interferes with the reasoning of her arguments. To Professor Prah Ruger, providing health equity not only aligns with the American ethos (because it establishes the bare minimum for the freedom that our country's ideals are founded upon), but is also a moral imperative for humanity. She advocates, in her new book, for the establishment of a Global Health Constitution (GHC) and a Global Institute of Health and Medicine (GIHM), citing, in part, the shortcomings of the World Health Organization as a catalyst for this change. To learn more about Professor Prah Ruger's vision for global health consider reading her book, "Global Health Justice and Governance," or taking the class next semester!
