Internships, more than being opportunities to earn money over the summer, are chances to get experience in a field of your interest. But many Penn students find themselves making a tough choice each year: do they take a paying internship that does not directly align with their interests or take an unpaid internship that is perfect?
The Franklin Opportunity Fund, a BFS exclusive award for students pursuing unpaid or underpaid internships, is giving students the freedom to get the summer experiences they want by providing the funding that students are not getting from their internship. The inaugural FOF cohort returned to Penn this fall and brought with them stories and pictures of their summer experiences: their activities range from working in art auction houses to documenting oral histories of the genesis of Off-Broadway.
