As a freshman with no previous research experience, the idea of doing research was incredibly daunting. I was surrounded by people who had been working in labs in high school and felt a strong sense of imposter syndrome before I even got the chance to look into different research labs at Penn. Having upperclassmen to talk to during this period of self-doubt really helped me realize that research at Penn wasn't quite as exclusive or closed-off as I thought it was, and I eventually started emailing and speaking with labs that were ready to welcome an inexperienced freshman with open arms. I eventually ended up joining the Greenberg Lab, and I am currently working with post-doctoral researcher Dr. Timothy Lippert to look into the role of inflammasomes in high-grade serous ovarian cancer. I've genuinely fallen in love with the field and the work that I do, and I hope to help others realize their potential as a researcher at Penn, no matter their background. Please feel free to reach out to talk about anything research, science, premed, or life at Penn in general!
