General Information
Dr. Rocher, Professor Emerita of South Asia Studies, was the founding Director of ASAM and played an instrumental role in establishing the Pan Asian American Community House (PAACH). The Dr. Rosane Rocher Prize for Best Undergraduate Essay in Asian American Studies is offered every year in her honor. The $400 prize-winning essay is selected in the spring semester from papers submitted by Penn students for an ASAM course taken during the prior calendar year. Essays may be submitted by the student author or nominated by the instructor for whose course the article was written. Papers in any field of Asian American Studies are eligible.
Eligibility Guidelines
Only students who will graduate from the University of Pennsylvania in the Spring of the year in progress or later may submit essays. Only essays submitted in partial or total fulfillment of a course taken at Penn in the Spring, Summer, or Fall of the previous year, or Spring of the year in progress, may be submitted.
Application Details
Each work should be provided with a cover page that states that it is submitted in the competition for the Dr. Rosane Rocher Prize and gives the following information:
- Student's name, ID number, class, phone number, and email address,
- Essay's title,
- Name of the instructor, title, and term of the course for which the essay was written.
No more than two essays may be submitted by one student or by one instructor.
