Description:
The CCEB is an interdisciplinary and interdepartmental program that links clinical epidemiology and biostatistics within the Perelman School of Medicine, the University of Pennsylvania Health System, and the Penn community.
Together we must answer and anticipate the pressing health issues we face as a society. At the CCEB we rise to that challenge through research and training in epidemiology and in biostatistics. We solve problems that patients and populations face. What that looks like in practice varies with the challenge at hand, be it a disease in one of the body’s major systems or a threat such as gun violence.
We have long been known as an innovative community where experts from all across the Perelman School of Medicine (PSOM) gather to investigate the central questions of epidemiology and of population health in general. Who suffers a given health problem, and how often does it occur? What causes it; how can we treat it or prevent it? What is the prognosis for patients, what will treatment cost—and what do these facts imply for health policy? Biostatistical expertise, in conjunction with sophisticated epidemiological study design, ensures that we make valid inferences about these relationships.
As part of a leading U.S. school of medicine, we’re ideally positioned to incorporate the study of healthcare delivery into research on prevention and disease management.
Students can contact Michele K. Fitzpatrick if they are interested in a summer internship with CCEB, and she will forward their request to the appropriate faculty member.
