Mentor Areas
Philly AIMS (Autism Instructional Methods & Support) is team of researchers and clinicians at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine dedicated to improving the quality of education & behavioral health services for children with autism by moving research into practice. Our team has expert knowledge of and experience with autism, teacher consultation, community-partnered work, and eLearning design and development.
Description:
Our work is conducted in partnership with the School District of Philadelphia. While completing the activities outlined below, students will also attend our team meetings and gain skills related evidence-based practices for students with autism and teacher consultation.
There are two potential options to learn from and to contribute to our team. First, Philly AIMS has developed a library of eLearning trainings for autism support teachers to increase their understanding and use of evidence-based educational practices. Our goal is to continue developing the content of these trainings and to acquire more team members/students who can assist with course design using adobe captivate or other similar platforms.
Second, our team has collected data for more than a decade on teachers experiences and their use of best practices. We are in the process of entering, abstracting and cleaning data from multiple sources to study the experiences of teachers and to examine sustainment of practices and are looking to acquire students who have experience using Python. Students can participate in activities related to data use (e.g., poster presentations at conferences, contributing to publications).
Preferred Qualifications
Students with interests in programming, psychology, psychiatry, or a related field.
Experience with adobe captive (or other platforms to design eLearning courses) or experience with Python is required.
