Mentor Areas
Professor Orenstein studies the political economy and foreign affairs of Europe. His research lies at the intersection of comparative politics, international political economy, and global public policy, employing a problem-driven research approach.
Description:
Russia's 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine shook Europe, transforming a "continent of peace" into one at war. The European Union's (EU) peace through integration project was upended, as the EU sought to transform itself into a more geopolitical entity. This has meant the securitization of core economic policy areas as well as an effort to establish its own borders without leaving any European country in a buffer zone with Russia. Interested students may apply annually to the PGRI European Studies Institute, which funds travel to Europe, primarily for senior thesis students. Professor Orenstein will also be hiring RA's to write code to scrape and store European think tank reports on Ukraine.
