Mentor Areas

Dr. Bittermann's research primarily focuses on the patient and non-patient factors that influence outcomes among liver transplant candidates and recipients. Within this arena, several core research themes include: 1) the real-world effects of immunosuppressive therapy on post-transplant outcomes; 2) center practice variability in management and treatment decision-making along the transplant continuum; 3) predictors of post-transplant outcomes beyond patient and graft survival; and 4) the unintended consequences of transplant policies on patient care and center behaviors. She also leads research projects related to living donor liver transplantation and chronic liver diseases, such as autoimmune hepatitis and alcohol-associated liver disease.
