Description:
I am working on a project on the international monetary system in the 1970s, from the Nixon Shock in 1971 (when the dollar went off gold) to the Volcker Shock in 1979 (when the Federal Reserve began to tighten monetary policy). The big questions are: what happened to the exchange rate system, how did countries cooperate (or not), what happened to gold, and how did the dollar emerge as the predominant currency.
