Description:

As a founding member and co-Director of microbialARC, Dr. Moustafa spearheads efforts to integrate a curated microbial strain bank with clinical and genomic data. This cryo-genomics archive serves as a valuable resource for microbial research, microbiome mechanistic studies, and molecular epidemiological studies, encompassing both pathogenic and commensal organisms. His team utilizes cutting-edge genomic and bioinformatic methodologies to analyze extensive genomics data, aiming to understand the genetic diversity of microbial species and the emergence of epidemic-causing strains. Moreover, Dr. Moustafa is a founder and associate director for the Center for Microbial Medicine at CHOP, aimed at advancing microbiome-based medicine to improve pediatric health. Dr. Moustafa’s laboratory is dedicated to studying infectious disease spread and its molecular determinants, particularly focusing on the evolution of epidemic lineages of antibiotic-resistant microbes.
