Mentor Areas
Approximately 15-20% of cancers worldwide are attributed to viral infections. Research in my lab focuses on two oncogenic DNA tumor viruses: human papillomavirus (HPV) and Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCV). We are also exploring the role of STING (Stimulator of Interferon Genes) in driving antiviral and antitumor innate immune responses. Our primary goal is to develop innovative therapeutic strategies that inhibit tumor development induced by oncogenic viruses.
Description:
Research positions are available in a multidisciplinary virology laboratory within the Department of Microbiology. The laboratory's focus is on studying how oncogenic DNA tumor viruses, such as human papillomavirus (HPV) and Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCV), manipulate their host cells to cause cancer. We are seeking creative and highly motivated undergraduate students to work on: 1) Elucidating the oncogenic mechanisms of MCV in inducing human cancers, 2) Developing new strategies to prevent and treat HPV-associated cancers, and 3) Developing novel immunotherapy strategies for treating virus-induced human cancers. Interested students should contact Professor You.
