Orthopedic Surgery

Description:

Minimally invasive surgery is a newer technique being applied in the realm of orthopedic foot and ankle surgery. It is well documented and it's used to correct deformities but they are still quite limited data regarding its use for fusions. Some newer data suggest that it is quite effective for these fusions.  To optimize patient outcomes, we often use biological augments such as Infuse, Augment, allograft or autograft to hasten or help complete the healing process. A newer biologic entry to the foot and ankle space is a product called Magnetos. Magnetos is made of tricalcium phospahate, which is not new to orthopedics. However they have paired it with newer technology that allows the graft to remain in place after delivery which has shown improved rates of fusion/healing in the spine. We want to see if we are showing the same improved healing rates in the foot and ankle.

We will compare MIS fusions done with Magnetos vs those done without or with other biologics by the same surgeon
