Mentor Areas
- Pediatric urology
- Hypospadias
- Bladder Exstrophy
Description:
We have full time research assistants within our department that help our students become oriented and get started on a project. Specifically these projects are focused on clinical outcomes of hypospadias surgery and areas of improvement as well as bladder and cloacal exstrophy. Specifically the hypospadias project would involve performing chart reviews for patients that received testosterone prior to surgery and did not respond to determine if these patients had a higher complication rate than those that did respond. Another project would be to look at our lost to follow-up rate among all hypospadias patients. We would then roll these results into a QI project to improve our follow-up of hypospadias patients as a whole.
For bladder exstrophy patients we would like to query our multi-institutional bladder exstrophy database to determine what the rate of genital ischemia is after exstrophy closure. Older literature has suggested these rates are higher, for the type of exstrophy closure we perform, than what we see at CHOP and we would like to investigate to verify our assumption and publish this data.
