Job Description: Prof. Lu Liu at the Wharton School and Prof. Julia Fonseca at Gies College of Business are seeking an undergraduate research assistant at the University of Pennsylvania to assist with textual analysis of a large dataset. The research will relate to household finance and labor economics and provide an opportunity to learn more about academic research. The ideal candidate will have strong skills in programming, data processing, and natural language processing. Job responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing algorithms to extract insights from unstructured text data
  • Cleaning, visualizing and analyzing data
  • Helping summarize and draft findings

Required qualifications:

  • Enrolled in degree in computer science or closely related field
  • Proficiency in Python
  • Extensive experience with NLP techniques and libraries

Preferred qualifications:

  • Familiarity with SQL and large-scale data processing tools
  • Familiarity with data visualization techniques
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Interest in academic research

This is a part-time, hourly position with flexible scheduling. Pay will be at 25 USD per hour.
