Description:

Dr. Doug Frye is the P.I. of the Social Cognition @PennGSE lab out of which Laronnda Thompson, Ph.D. (ABD) Research on Meaning-Making program is operating. RoMM is a multi-phase, multi-method PK-3rd English/Language Arts research project, investigating the developmental benefits of Culturally Relevant / Representational learning materials.

Currently, RoMM is looking for analysts to review 24+ children's books and submit periodical researcher memos on the books and review process pertaining questions that may develop that are not part of the review-questionnaire. RAs who complete the book reviews will be asked to stay on to either code memos, continue the implementation and observation aspect of the study by reading the reviewed books to younger learners, serve as a site facilitator in collaboration with the Philly Reading Coaches program or a combination of the three opportunities.

There is currently no funding for this project however, we are exploring work-study options; RAs and PAs who remain involve through the completion of the program are encouraged/invited to create their own research agenda from the experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Those interested in English, Creative Writing, Education, especially early childhood education and development as well as those curious about sociocultural competence development or Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are urged to apply. Experience with qualitative methods, Friday meeting availability, comfort with survey completion as well as working with young children are strong advantages.
