Description:
SAFELab is looking for students who are interested in the intersections of emerging technology, human rights, as well as social justice / social media research. Drawing on computational and social work approaches to research, we engage in qualitative and natural language processing methods to understand the mechanisms of violence, joy, and grief—and how these things show up online. We examine how to support youth of Color in navigating grief & violence in social media environments. Additionally, SAFELab is dedicated to researching innovative methods to promote joy and healing in digital contexts.
We are looking for students who can support research projects, primarily with literature review writing, grant writing, data collection, project organization, and recruitment. We are also particularly looking for students who are interested in more creative aspects of research dissemination—such as filmmaking, and community-based installations.
