We study a rare group of genetic disorders that affect myelin formation--the leukodystrophies. In general, the leukodystrophies are progressive and severe disorders of neurodegeneration affecting young children. In our research group, we characterize the natural history of these rare disorders. We follow how the leukodystrophies affect the way children move and communicate. When we understand this, we can design better clinical trials and treatment outcomes. This is critical work that is essential for future development of target therapies.

Description:

We are actively looking for undergraduates for flexible, paid positions to help with our outcomes data collection and entry. This work will help us to characterize how leukodystrophies affect children and function changes over time.
