Shirley Yuan
Hi everyone! My name is Shirley, and I am a junior studying Neuroscience and Bioengineering. My research interests center on translational work at the intersection of cardiology, genetic engineering, and bioinformatics. In the Margulies Lab, I study engineered heart tissues derived from iPSCs to model hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, drug testing, and force generation analysis. I have also worked in the Santiago-Frangos Lab on computational biology projects investigating evolutionary homologs of immune system proteins across eukaryotes.
While undergraduate research can be challenging, it is also incredibly rewarding to pursue novel questions, lead projects, and watch experiments succeed after many failures. I would love to help students develop their research interests, explore opportunities available, apply for grants and fellowships, and navigate the balance between research and academics. Please feel free to reach out anytime!
