Winston Chen
Hello! I'm Winston Chen, a current senior in Earth and Environmental Science (EES) and Biology. When I first got to Penn, I was overwhelmed by the incredible diversity of research being done. I found it very daunting to add research after having been thrust into college with a million things to worry about already. All I knew was that I wanted to work on something relating to sustainability.
However, finding my groove in research was super rewarding. The research I do in Professor Marinov’s lab has allowed me to become highly familiar with ocean circulations while also utilizing coding and statistics. I think what makes research so fulfilling is that it ties together my academic experience and skills while also helping push the frontier of a field. Outside of the lab, I have had the opportunity to take part in Science Olympiad at UPenn as an event supervisor, as co-chair of the Earth and Environmental Science Undergraduate Board, and as a teaching assistant.
I am passionate about engaging students with research and making the process as approachable as possible. If you have questions about where to start with research or how to choose a lab that suits you, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
