Energy and International Security Research Abroad
Annabelle Paradise ('25), an Earth and Environmental Science major, traveled to Norway and Lithuania to conduct research on sub-sea critical energy infrastructure security. Annabelle was mentored by Dr. Benjamin Schmitt (Department of Physics and Astronomy, Kleinman Center for Energy Policy) and this project was supported by the College Alumni Society Undergraduate Research Grant.
My Most Rewarding Academic Experience
Manya Gupta ('25), a Political Science and Economics double major, conducted research on why many Indian households still cook with firewood despite receiving free liquified petroleum gas under government programs. Manya was mentored by Dr. Tariq Thachill (Department of Political Science) and this project was supported by the College Alumni Society Undergraduate Research Grant. Her thesis won one of three university-wide Phi Beta Kappa Best Thesis Awards, shared the Leo S. Rowe Prize for best thesis in comparative politics and international relations, and won the Holden Furber Prize for best undergraduate essay related to South Asia.
Be Willing to Learn, Make Mistakes, and Keep Going
Ryan Tannir ('25), a Biology and Biochemistry double major, conducted research on immunotherapy treatments for cancer. Ryan was mentored by Dr. Leyuan Ma (Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine) and this project was supported by the College Alumni Society Undergraduate Research Grant. Currently, Ryan, is continuing his research at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia as a Research Technician.
Tuning into the Past
C.H. Henry ('25), a Communication and History double major, conducted research on the influence of presidential campaign music on the American voter. C.H. was mentored by David Eisenhower, J.D. (Annenberg School for Communication) and this project was supported by the College Alumni Society Undergraduate Research Grant.
Connecting Psychology and Law Through Research
Jessica Thomas ('25), a Psychology major, conducted research on how childhood experiences differentially impact a person’s judgments of moral blame. Jessica was mentored by Dr. Geoffrey Goodwin (Department of Psychology) and this project was supported by the College Alumni Society Undergraduate Research Grant.
Penn graduate named 2025 Yenching Scholar
Blake Kravitz will receive full funding to pursue a master’s degree in China studies at the Yenching Academy of Peking University in Beijing.
How Fieldwork Shaped My Vision for the Future
Euel Kebebew ('25), an International Relations and History double major, conducted research on how Ethiopia's foreign policy is influenced by global institutions. Euel was mentored by Dr. Valeriya Kamenova (Department of International Relations) and this project was supported by a College Alumni Society Undergraduate Research Grant.
Recent Penn graduate selected for English Teaching Flagship Award
The English Teaching Flagship Award is given to individuals willing and qualified to be English teachers in Taiwan. Recipients are selected by the Foundation for Scholarly Exchange (FSE) in cooperation with the MOE (Ministry of Education) in Taiwan.
Penn students and alumni awarded Fulbright 2025-26 U.S. Student Program grants
Nineteen have been offered Fulbright awards for the 2025-26 academic year to conduct research, pursue graduate degrees, or teach English overseas.
My Research on Rainwater Harvesting
Krishna Chandrasekhara ('25), a Health and Societies major, conducted research on the public health benefits of rainwater harvesting. Krishna was mentored by Dr. John Kanbayashi (Department of History and Sociology of Science) and this project was supported by the Paul and Kathleen Barthmaier Award.
Penn fourth-year and three recent alumni named 2025 Knight-Hennessy Scholars
The scholarship provides financial support for up to three years to pursue a graduate degree and global leadership training at Stanford University.
