Gaining Clinical and Research Experience

Ellie Mayers ('26), a Nursing major, conducted research on the benefits and disadvantages of activity restriction during pregnancy with the mentorship of Dr. Beth Pineles (Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology). This research was supported by the Penn Undergraduate Research Mentoring Program.

Investigating the Biological Foundations of Sleep

Hayle Kim (’25) researched the genetic regulation of early-life sleep under the mentorship of Dr. Jeffrey Rosa and Dr. Matthew Kayser in the Department of Psychiatry at the Perelman School of Medicine. Hayle conducted this research with the support of the University Scholars program and recently presented her work at the Advances in Sleep and Circadian Sciences Conference in Clearwater, FL. She was awarded the Goldwater Scholarship in 2024.

Research is a Continuous Learning Process

Monica Madya ('25), a Biology major, conducted research on biomarkers of rare metabolic diseases with mentorship from Dr. Rebecca Ganetzky (Department of Pediatrics) and through the support of the Pincus-Magaziner Family Undergraduate Research Fund.

Learning the Role of the Publisher

Dylan Fritz ('25), an English and Urban Studies double major, caught a glimpse of what a career in publishing could look like as an intern at Penn Press through the Summer Humanities Internship Program (SHIP).

Exploring the Quantum Frontier

Jonathan Hong and Kevin Yao conducted research on quantum computing with mentorship from Dr. Gushu Li (Department of Computer and Information Science), and this research was supported by the Penn Undergraduate Research Mentoring Program (PURM).

Behavioral Science in Action

Mimi Pastore ('27), a student in the College of Arts and Sciences, conducted research with Behavior Change For Good (BCFG), a research team that develops behavior change programs to improve daily decisions about health, education, and savings. Mimi was mentored by Dr. Katherine Milkman (Wharton School), and this research was supported by the Penn Undergraduate Research Mentoring Program (PURM).

Music Making and Social Connection

Maya Hardy ('25), a Psychology major, conducted research on the relationship between music and social connection with the mentorship of Dr. Katherine Cotter (Positive Psychology Center). This research was supported by the College Alumni Society Undergraduate Research Grant.

Building Resilience

Yerahm Hong ('26), a Bioengineering major, conducted research on developing a mouse model to better understand Dravet Syndrome, a childhood epilepsy disorder, with the mentorship of Dr. Ethan Goldberg (Department of Neurology). This research was supported by the Class of 1971 Robert J. Holtz Fund Grant.

My Summer at ArtWell

Natalie Cheng ('27), an Architecture major, was an intern at ArtWell through the Summer Humanities Internship Program. ArtWell is a Philadelphia-based nonprofit supporting young people and their communities through multidisciplinary arts expression, education and creative reflection.

Exploring Civic Engagement

Finding France at the Beinecke Library

Nishanth Bhargava (‘27) researched the 1968 student movement in France at the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University under the mentorship of Dr. Siarhei Biareishyk (Department of Russian and East European Studies). He conducted this research with support from the University Scholars program.
