Land use and land cover change (LULCC)

I work with undergraduate students exploring the power of satellite imagery and GIS to better understand our environment, focusing on land use and land cover change (LULCC). From tracking urban growth and fire recovery to assessing flood risks and the urban heat island effect, we aim to uncover key insights that help us address today’s environmental challenges.

Biomaterials for Drug Delivery in Dermatology

We are looking for students who are interested in developing new polymeric biomaterials for drug delivery and tissue engineering in the skin.

Developing a Domain-Specific Scientific Literature Chatbot

Building on a prior published paper, I am looking for student in Computer Science and related areas to develop a chatbot that can ingest journal articles from the literature to help guide experimental research in a specific domain.

My research interests are in the realm of earth science and veterinary medicine, particularly relating to interactions between humans and animals/the natural environment. I have been involved with a few research projects at Penn, including research through the Galápagos Education Research Alliance program (Beiting Lab, Penn Vet School). Over the summer of 2024, I traveled to the Galápagos to conduct field research related to antimicrobial resistance, and I am now preparing a manuscript of these results.

Additionally, I am a student researcher under Dr. John Spiesberger (in the Earth and Environmental Science Department), where we are performing a comparative analysis on methods of tracking whales using widely separated receivers, and studying how relevant errors (such as variation in underwater sound speed, clock hydrophone errors, receiver position errors, etc.) impact accuracy of the localisation.

Finally, I am involved with a project examining the movement patterns of mountain lions in response to human recreation with the UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability (my high-school research lab).

Outside of research, I am a tour guide through the Kite and Key society, a Student Eco Rep, part of the tech crew in Bloomers comedy, and a leader of Pennquest (a backpacking pre orientation program).

My research interests lie primarily in computer science and physics, as I have done past research in particle physics at the University of Mississippi and in data systems at Boston University's Data-intensive Systems and Computing Lab. I hope to develop my research skills further as a University Scholar.
